FAQ: Can I create a custom domain for my Goodstock & Co. store?
Yes. You can redirect your Goodstock & Co. store URL to a custom domain. Simply log in to your domain provider’s website and create a CNAME record that points to your GoodstockCompany.com store (ie., SmitForMayor.GoodstockCompany.com points to store.SmitForMayor.com).
Below are ways to do this with the most common domain hosts:
Google Domains
Google Domains is not actually a domain host, so you will still have to work with your main domain host (e.g. GoDaddy) to set up a CNAME Record.
However, Google provides helpful links to find the specific instructions for major domain hosts.
The same principles as the instructions for others below applies, with the key information being as follows:
For Goodstock, please fill out the fields as follows:
Domain: store.[yourURL].com (no brackets)
Target: [your store name].goodstockcompany.com
GoDaddy
Add a CNAME (alias) record to your DNS zone file in your GoDaddy account. CNAME records use a domain prefix, such as blog to point your domain to a domain name. To add a domain prefix that points to an IP address, add a subdomain instead.
You can watch a short animation of this task farther down the page.
- Log in to your GoDaddy Domain Control Center. (Need help logging in? Find your username or password.)
- Select your domain to access the Domain Settings page.
- Under Additional Settings, select Manage DNS.
- Select Add under the records table.
- Under Type, select CNAME.
- Enter the details for your CNAME record:
- Host: store.[yourURL].com
- Points to: [yourURL].goodstockcompany.com
- Note: The most common CNAME host is www, with the @ symbol entered for the Points to field. This will make www.coolexample.com load to the same webpage as the root domain, coolexample.com.
- Select Save to save your new CNAME.
Please allow up to 48 hours for your changes to take full effect globally.
